The Busan International Film Festival 부산국제영화제's Asia Cinema Fund has announced financial support for some 31 film and documentary projects at different stages of completion.
Organisers report that applications grew by 30% to 285.
In the Script Development section it backed two projects from the Philippines and two from Thailand, both countries which it describes as having burgeoning independent film communities. Its recipients include the well-known director Wisit SASANATIENG วิศิษฏ์ ศาสนเที่ยง. Among the South Korean projects selectors say there were "remarkable" and diverse entries.
The post-production fund's selections include one film, Cut カット (2011), which is already bound for the Venice festival and Char.. The Island Within (pictured), a Danish-Indian co-ventured documentary which also appears in the Open Doors project market at this week's Locarno festival.
