ATV set to broadcast boardroom bust-up

Expect a press conference today to be held in Hong Kong about the ownership of Asia Television, the territory's troubled No. 2 TV broadcaster. According to local reports, one of the owners Payson Cha is seeking to sell his share stake to a Chinese property tycoon. This follows numerous high profile executive exits, hundreds of redundancies and talk of the other major owner Tsai Eng-meng (pictured) reneging on an investment promise.
The apparent reason for the bust-up, ATV's inability to stem its losses, should serve as a reminder of the difficulties facing companies seeking a new free-to-air licence in Hong Kong. This week PCCW and its NowTV subsidiary became the third company to announce its intention to bid for a digital FTA permit.
