Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014) held the top spot at the South Korea box office for the third consecutive weekend.
With a market share of 33.7%, the Marvel Studios LLC film added 471,000 admissions from 706 screens between Friday and Sunday for 3.32 million admissions and ₩26.7 billion (US$25.7 million) after 19 days.
The top newcomer this weekend was revenge thriller Broken 방황하는 칼날 (2014) (pictured). Based on a HIGASHINO Keigo 東野圭吾 novel, and adapted in Japan as The Hovering Blade さまよう刃 (2009), the LEE Jeong-ho 이정호 film attracted 458,000 admissions and ₩3.71 billion (US$3.56 million) from 592 screens on its first four days.
Three years ago, Perfect Number 용의자Ｘ (2012) – based on Higashino's novel Suspect X – attracted 634,000 admissions in its first four days for a total of 1.55 million admissions and ₩11.2 billion (US$10.8 million).
Innocent Thing 가시 (2014), the latest film by Volcano High 화산고 (2001) director KIM Tae-gyun 김태균 | 金泰均, opened fifth-placed with 95,300 admissions and ₩752 million (US$722,000) from 356 screens. The suspense melodrama stars JANG Hyeok 장혁 | 張赫 as a teacher who falls for an obsessive student.
Thread of Lies 우아한 거짓말 (2014) dropped out of the top ten in its fifth weekend, earning ₩157 million (US$151,000) from 22,900 admissions. After 32 days in cinemas, the LEE Han 이한 | 李翰 drama has made ₩11.6 billion (US$11.2 million) from 1.61 million admissions.
