South Korean drama-thriller Deranged 연가시 has picked up momentum at the local box office. It sold its three millionth ticket this weekend after just 11 days on release.
The film, about a mutant water-borne parasite that drives humans insane before killing them, is directed by PARK Joung-woo 박정우 | 朴正祐 and produced by Ozone Film 오죤필름.
Released on 5 July, Deranged sold 1.3 million tickets in its first four days and topped the box office, relegating The Amazing Spider-Man to second place. Deranged hit the two million mark — that is usually considered the mark of a hit in South Korea — after eight days.
Its distributor CJ Entertainment Inc CJ엔터테인먼트 said that it expects Deranged, currently on 756 screens, to pass the 4 million ticket sales mark before the release of The Dark Knight Rises later this week.
CJ Entertainment's US arm will release the film in North America on a dozen screens from 27 July.
