Three Asian films will compete at the 33rd Durban International Film Festival (19-29 July), South Africa's longest-running film festival.
Screening in competition are JANG Hee-chul 장희철's Beautiful Miss Jin 미스진은 예쁘다. (2011) from South Korea, Julia LEIGH's Sleeping Beauty (2011) from Australia, and Ann HUI 許鞍華's A Simple Life 桃姐 (2011) from Hong Kong and China.
There is a special focus, A Taste of Japan, that includes MIIKE Takashi 三池崇史's 3-D samurai drama Hara-Kiri: Death of a Samurai 一命 (2011) and YANG Yong-hi 양영희 | 梁英姬's Our Homeland かぞくのくに about the reunion of a North Korean family.
This year's edition presents 84 features, 36 documentaries and more than 50 short films at the eleven day event. Screenings take place at ten venues throughout Durban including township areas where cinemas are non-existent.
The festival also runs extensive seminar and workshop programmes.
