Finecut Co Ltd 화인컷, the South Korean sales agent that has two films in the Cannes Film Festival, has unveiled a handful of new titles for sale — and a continued string of deals on its previous slate.
In addition to HONG Sang-soo 홍상수 | 洪常秀's The Day He Arrives 북촌방향 (2011) and KIM Ki-duk 김기덕 | 金基德's Arirang 아리랑 (2011), which screen in Un Certain Regard, the company will have market premieres of Athena: Goddess of War 아테나 더 무비 (2011) and Leafie 마당을 나온 암탉 (2011). It will also play showreels of Blind 블라인드 (2011) and The Cat 고양이: 죽음을보는 두개의눈 (2011).
Athena is a spy action film edited from the television series of the same name for the international market. It is produced by Taewon Entertainment Inc 태원엔터테인먼트 and stars JEONG U-seong 정우성 | 鄭雨成, CHA Seung-won 차승원 | 車勝元 and SU Ae 수애. Leafie is a children's animation based on a novel about a hen's adventure, love and sacrifice.
Blind (pictured) is a thriller about a young woman who witnesses a murder and has to aid the killer's next victim even though she cannot see. The Cat is a horror film about a pet groomer who is haunted after adopting a feline discovered at a crime scene. Both films will be released this summer by Next Entertainment World NEW.
Sales continue on Finecut's 2010 slate. Carancho (2010), the Argentinian film in last year's Un Certain Regard, was recently acquired by Les Films d'Aujourd'hui for Canada and by Brun Bro Films for Benelux. Last year's Critics' Week title Bedevilled 김복남 살인사건의 전말 (2009) has been acquired by Madman Entertainment for Australia and New Zealand. I Saw the Devil 악마를 보았다 (2010) has been acquired by Luna Films for Singapore and by Montblanc Entertainment for French-speaking Switzerland.
Hello Ghost 헬로우 고스트 (2010) was sold to Scorpio East Pictures Pte Ltd 東方天蝎影視有限公司 for Singapore, to Queen Films for Indonesia and to Hwa Yea Multimedia (M) Sdn Bhd for Malaysia. Thriller Midnight F.M. 심야의 FM (2010) was also acquired by Hwa Yea for Malaysia and by Universal Full Band for China. Heartbeat 심장이 뛴다 (2010) and Night Fishing 파란만장 (2011) have been taken by Taiwan's Catchplay Inc 威望國際股份有限公司.
