Fortissimo Films is to handle rights sales of WONG Kar-wai 王家衛's The Grandmaster 一代宗師 in select territories. Fortissimo boss Michael J. WERNER will also become an associate producer on the film.
Fortissimo has also extended its current arrangement to represent the library of films produced by Wong's Jet Tone Films Ltd 澤東製作有限公司.
Outside Asia The Grandmaster is being sold by France's Wild Bunch. Fortissimo will handle territories including Japan, South Korea and India.
The film had earlier been licensed by the producers to Mei Ah Entertainment Group Ltd 美亞娛樂資訊集團有限公司 in much of South East Asia.
Still in production, The Grandmaster is a presentation of Block 2 Pictures Inc 春光映畫 and Sil-Metropole Organisation Ltd 銀都機構有限公司 and a production of Jet Tone Films. The producers are Wong and Jacky PANG 彭綺華, with Chan Ye-cheng and SONG Dai 宋岱 serving as executive producers.
"Fortissimo and Jet Tone Films have grown together," said Pang in a statement. "We have always seen Michael as a member of our team and we are very happy to have him physically on board The Grandmaster utilising his background and knowledge of Asian cinema and his expertise in international sales, marketing and distribution."
"I was on the set of The Grandmaster last week and witnessed one of the most exciting sets and fighting sequences that I have ever seen. I look forward to working closely with Jacky Pang to bring this extraordinary film to the world," said Werner.
