Eight Asian films will screen at next month's 43rd International Forum of New Cinema | Internationales Forum des Jungen Films (7-17 Feb 2013), a sidebar of the Berlin International Film Festival.
Highlighting the festival's role as a springboard for Asian films that screened at the Busan International Film Festival 부산국제영화제, four of the titles had their international premieres at the South Korean festival.
The Busan titles are Indian documentary Char... the No-Man's Island …Moddhikhane Char, Japanese dramas Cold Bloom 桜並木の満開の下に and The Town of Whales くじらのまち and Taiwan's Together 甜・祕密 (pictured).
Among the premieres are QUAN Ling 權聆's husband-and-wife drama Forgetting to Know You 陌生 from China. It won the top prize at the Shanghai International Film Festival 上海國際電影節's project market in 2010.
Also receiving their world premieres are IKEYA Kaoru 池谷薫's documentary Roots 先祖になる from Japan, Fahad MUSTAFA and Deepti KAKKAR's Powerless from India, and Nontawat NUMBENCHAPOL นนทวัฒน์ นำเบญจพล's Thai-Cambodian Boundary ฟ้าต่ำแผ่นดินสูง.
There are 41 films in the Forum's main programme, more than half of which are world premieres. Organises noted that, "Social upheaval, times of transition and periods of change are at the heart of numerous films [in this year's selection]."
This year's Special Screenings are yet to be announced.
