ISHII Yuya 石井裕也's The Great Passage 舟を編む continues its award streak this week with the 68th Mainichi Film Award 毎日映画コンクール, organised by Japan's Mainichi Shimbun newspaper.

The dramedy (pictured) won four awards: the Grand Prize for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Art Direction and Best Actor for MATSUDA Ryuhei 松田龍平.

After topping both Kinema Junpo and Eiga Geijutsu's annual lists, MORISAKI Azuma 森崎東's Pecoross' Mother and Her Days ペコロスの母に会いに行く won two awards: The runner-up Award of Excellence and Best Actress for AKAGI Harue 赤木春恵.

Three more films won two awards: OKITA Shuichi 沖田修一's A Story of Yonosuke 横道世之介 (2012) won Best Supporting Actress (YOSHITAKA Yuriko 吉高由里子) and Best Sound Recording; AOYAMA Shinji 青山真治's Backwater 共喰い won Best Screenplay and Best Cinematography; and The Devil's Path 凶悪 won Best Music and Best Supporting Actor for Pierre TAKI ピエール瀧's performance.

Studio Ghibli スタジオジブリ's The Tale of Princess Kaguya かぐや姫の物語 won the Best Animation award, and short film The Moon That Fell Into the Sea 海に落ちた月の話 won the Ofuji Noburo Award, aimed at smaller animation productions.

Michael HANEKE's Amour (2012) won the award for Best Foreign Film.
