The Hong Kong Asia Film Financing Forum (HAF) 香港亞洲電影投資會, the annual film project market, today unveiled a larger than ever selection of 32 works in progress for its 10th edition (19-21 Mar 2012).
The move adds width and relevance to the Hong Kong event, which runs in parallel with the territory's foreign sales market, Hong Kong FilMart (19-22 Mar).
While HAF has not previously included non-fiction works, the 2012 selection includes six documentaries including Dain Iskandar SAID's (Un)Making the Betrayal, which examines the collaboration between cinema and a totalitarian political regime, and Music and the Nation 音樂中國, by local Hong Kong talent CHEUNG King-wai 張經緯.
HAF is increasingly collaborating with other project markets and co-production financing forums. This year's selection notably includes one project, You're A Big Girl Now 晴空萬裡任翱翔, by director Tze Chun 陳子翱 which came from New York's Independent Filmmaker Project, and two from Copenhagen's DOX-LAB; Hangman by Jakrawal NILTHAMRONG and Ionut PITURESCU, and Love: 1984 and SODA Kazuhiro 想田和弘 and Peter KEREKES.
The selection — 28 of which are Asian — assembles an array of projects from leading directors and producers from the Asia-Pacific region. Established names include Australian director Tony AYRES; Chinese director Pema Tseden 萬瑪才旦; Hong Kong producer-director PANG Ho-cheung 彭浩翔; Oscar-winner Ruby YANG 楊紫燁; Taiwan's CHANG Tso-chi 張作驥; and China's GU Changwei 顧長衛.
HAF says it received over 200 project submissions, from 45 countries and territories.
