Christmas at the box office was a slow affair in Hong Kong, where box office takings were down by 20%, according to data from the Motion Picture Industry Association Ltd (MPIA) 香港電影協會.

MPIA figures for the three day period 24-27 Dec — spanning Saturday, Sunday and Monday — show territory-wide receipts of HK$35.5 million ($4.56 million) compared with HK$44.2 million ($5.68 million) over the same four day period last year.

The top four films were all Hollywood sequels Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol (2011), The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1 (2011), Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows (2011) and Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chip-Wrecked (2011), leaving Flying Swords of Dragon Gate 龍門飛甲 (2011) (pictured) in fifth place over the narrow Christmas period.
