The upcoming Venice International Film Festival's Horizons (Orrizonti) section will open with Japanese film Cut カット (2011) (pictured) and include a range of Chinese, Indian, Thai and South Korean pictures.
Cut, directed by Amir NADERI, is co-written by AOYAMA Shinji 青山真治 and stars NISHIJIMA Hidetoshi 西島秀俊 and TOKIWA Takako 常盤貴子. Another Japanese film, TSUKAMOTO Shinya 塚本晋也's Kotoko, is believed to be the director's latest collaboration with singer Cocco.
The festival describes the section as "an exploration of the modes of contemporary cinema, at the point in which it intersects with other expressive languages .. [the Asia-Pacific films in particular] demonstrate the power of the framed image and the subversion of film editing."
Films selected for Venice's main competition section will be announced later today.
