Hua Hin Festival unveils Asia-centric lineup

Some 60 films will screen next week at the inaugural edition of the Hua Hin International Film Festival งานเทศกาลภาพยนตร์นานาชาติหัวหิน (26-29 Jan).
Highlights include a showing of The Lady (2011) with leading actress Michelle YEOH 楊紫瓊 and director Luc BESSON in attendance; a Korean night, built around the screening of melodrama Always 오직 그대만 (2011); Warriors of the Rainbow: Seediq Bale 賽德克・巴萊 (2011) as opening film; and a gala screening for local Thai film It Gets Better ไม่ได้ขอให้มารัก (2011).
Other hot titles include Meryl Steep-vehicle, The Iron Lady (2011) and An Ordinary Love Story รัก (2010).
Fulfilling its mission to be a showcase for Asian and in particular South East Asian cinema the festival will also include screenings for Pinoy Sunday 台北星期天 (2009), Ways of the Sea Halaw (2010) and Niño (2011) (pictured) from The Philippines, Fool for Love Để mai tính (2010) from Vietnam, Moon Lotus from Myanmar, KL Gangster (2011) from Malaysia, drama Kiles from Cambodia, It's a Great Great World 大世界 (2011) from Singapore, and Boy's Diary Catatan (harian) si boy (2011) and Borders (Batan), both from Indonesia.
Other local Thai films include Headshot ฝนตกขึ้นฟ้า (2011), Laddaland ลัดดาแลนด์ (2011), Kon Khon คนโขน (2011); teen dramas Love, Not Yet รักจัดหนัก (2011) and The Billionaire วัยรุ่นพันล้าน (2011).
Films from further afield include The Sword Identity 倭寇的蹤跡 (2011) (China), Tormented ラビット・ホラー3D (2011) (Japan), Michael (2011) (India); The Client 의뢰인 (2011) and Moby Dick 모비딕 (2011) from South Korea and controversial sex drama Shame (2011) from UK-Australia as well as David Cronenberg's A Dangerous Method.
