Kite flies high in Hawaii

The Kite Patang, a film about a family duel, set against the backdrop of an Indian kite festival, won the Halekulani Golden Orchid award for narrative feature at the 31st Hawaii International Film Festival (13-23 Oct 2011).
Hanaan 하나안 (pictured), a South Korea-Uzbekistan co-production about drug addiction in Uzbekistan, claimed the NETPAC award.
Directed by Prashant BHARGAVA, The Kite was presented at Berlin's International Forum of New Cinema Internationales Forum des Jungen Films and the recent Vancouver International Film Festival, and next screens at the Hong Kong Asian Film Festival 香港亞洲電影節.
Other prizes at Hawaii include a Golden Orchid for best documentary that went to Splinters by Adam Pesce, a US-Papua New Guinea co-venture about surfing, identity and changing village life.
In the EuroCinema festival within a festival Lynne Ramsay's We Need To Talk About Kevin won a trio of award including best actress for Tilda Swinton.
