Organisers of the 61st Berlin International Film Festival (10-20 Feb) have announced 24 of the 50 films in its Panorama section.

The selection includes three titles from South Korea, KIM Soo-hyun 김수현 | 金秀玹's Ashamed 창피해 (2010), JEON Kyu-hwan 전규환 | 全奎煥's Dance Town 댄스 타운 (2010) and RYOO Seung-wan 류승완 | 柳昇完's The Unjust 부당거래 (2010).

The festival said in a press release that the initial selection of two dozen titles "provide lively insight into the creations of world cinema during the so-called post-crisis era."

The Unjust (pictured), which opened theatrically on 28 Oct 2010, is a drama about judicial and police corruption in South Korea after the president interferes in the investigation of a serial killer.

Indie dramas Ashamed and Dance Town both had their world premiere at the Busan International Film Festival 부산국제영화제 in October and have yet to be theatrically released in South Korea.

Lesbian drama Ashamed will be among the films competing for the festival's Queer Teddy Award which is this year celebrating its 25th anniversary.

  1. Ashamed | 창피해
Poorly constructed lesbian drama is way too discursive for its own good.
  2. Dance Town | 댄스 타운
Bleak but engrossing portrait of a middle-aged North Korean defector and the social misfits she encounters.
  3. The Unjust | 부당거래
Hard-driven drama of crime and corruption is leavened by an operatic black humour.
