Malaysian filmmaker LIEW Seng Tat 劉城達 (pictured) project In What City Does It Live? was today awarded €50,000 by the Berlin International Film Festival's World Cinema Fund.

City focuses on the unexpected presence of an African immigrant hiding in a small Malaysian village who arouses the superstitions of the local residents. That calls into question whether home is defined by the place you live or by the people who surround you.

This is the third major development funding award claimed by the project. In January it was one of three inaugural recipients of the Sundance Institute | Mahindra Global Filmmaking Award.

The auteur director and the already well-travelled film project received $10,000 and a year of mentoring from Sundance staff. In 2008 it received the Prince Claus award at Rotterdam's CineMart. The film is set to be produced by Malaysia's Everything Films.

Liew graduated from the Multimedia University, where he majored in 3D animation. His debut feature Flower in the Pocket 口袋裏的花 (2007) collected multiple awards and prizes at the Busan International Film Festival 부산국제영화제, International Film Festival Rotterdam, Fribourg International Film Festival and Pesaro Film Festival | Mostra Internazionale del Nuovo Cinema. In 2008, he was selected to participate at the Cannes Residence Cinéfondation.
