Thailand's Living Films has teamed with the Singapore office of Australia's Blackmagic Design Pty Ltd and the UK's Soho Films for Pharmacide, a thriller about the massive illegal drugs industry.

It will be directed by Mark Hammond, who previously directed UK action thriller Johnny Was and co-wrote the screenplay of Pharmacide with Jay Milner.

The English-language Pharmacide will be made on a $15 million budget and take in locations including Thailand, Singapore and Germany. Production is expected to begin in mid-2013.

Casting is now underway under the auspices of UK casting agents Jon and Ros Hubbard. Producer credits go to Living Films' Chris Lowenstein and Blackmagic's Ian MAYCOCK. Development finance has been provided by Singapore's Media Development Authority (MDA).

"Pharmacide is a perfect international crime thriller [that will] cast a talented Asian and Western ensemble, to tell a unique and contemporary story about the shadowy, true-to-life world of counterfeit medicine trafficking," said Lowenstein.

International sales are to be handled by Arclight Films.
