Hong Kong director Johnnie TO 杜琪峰 will receive a career award at the upcoming Locarno Film Festival | Festival del film Locarno in Switzerland (1-11 Aug 2012).
As well as receiving a Golden Leopard of honour, writer and director To will see his latest effort as producer, Motorway 車手, screened at the festival's huge outdoor venue the Piazza Grande.
"Each of his films is a love letter to his native city, urban poems that never tire of celebrating the nocturnal settings, artificial beauty and vital buzz of Hong Kong," said Olivier PÈRE, the festival's artistic director.
To has been active as a film maker since 1980 and co-founded production house Milkyway Image (HK) Ltd 銀河映像(香港)有限公司 in 1996. But he only found international acclaim in the past fifteen years, with films including The Mission 鎗火 (1999), Breaking News 大事件 (2004) and Election 黑社會 (2005).
