The upcoming Melbourne International Film Festival (2-19 Aug 2012) has revealed its first series of selections, with a collection of features culled from Sundance, Rotterdam, Berlin and Cannes.
In addition to the previously announced The Sapphires as opening film, the first 16 titles announced are headed by Cannes Palme d'Or winner Amour, by Michael Haneke.
Asian titles include MIIKE Takashi 三池崇史's Ace Attorney 逆転裁判 (pictured), Pen-ek RATANARUANG เป็นเอก รัตนเรือง's Headshot ฝนตกขึ้นฟ้า (2011), KORE-EDA Hirokazu 是枝裕和's I Wish 奇跡 (2011) and Edwin's Postcards from the Zoo Kebun binatang (2011).
Local titles include David Pulbrook's Last Dance, that probes the aftermath of a terrorist attack on a synagogue, and gory horror flick 100 Bloody Acres, which is the directorial debut of Colin CAIRNES and Cameron CAIRNES.
The full programme and guest list will be announced on 10 July.
