The Venezia Classici section at this year's 70th Venice International Film Festival (28 Aug — 7 Sep 2013) will screen restored prints of nine Asian classics.

A 35mm print of romance Comrades was screened publicly for the first time in almost a decade at last year's Hong Kong International Film Festival 香港國際電影節. Chan has personally supervised the production of the new print, which is produced in a partnership with his We Pictures Ltd 我們製作有限公司 and Warner Bros in Bologna.

The other restored prints come from a variety of sources. The World Film Foundation and the Austrian Film Museum is providing the print for the experimental Mysterious Object, while Jiang Wen worked with Orange Sky Golden Harvest Entertainment Co Ltd (OSGH) 橙天嘉禾娛樂 on the restored print of his directorial debut. Shochiku Co Ltd 松竹 is providing prints of the two Japanese classics by Ozu and Nakamura. Oshima's war drama (pictured) has been restored by HanWay Films.

For the first time, the Venezia Classici section will feature an award for Best Film and one for Best Documentary, decided by a jury comprised of film students from Italian universities. The full line-up of the festival will be announced on 25 July.
