South Korean romantic comedy How to Use Guys With Secret Tips 남자사용설명서 (2013) won the audience award at the 15th Far East Film Festival in Udine, Italy on Saturday night. The festival is Europe's largest showcase of popular cinema from East Asia.

First-time director LEE Won-suk 이원석 | 李源碩 (pictured) attended the film's international premiere and received the award from festival president Sabrina BARACETTI and actor RYU Seung-beom 류승범 | 柳昇範. Ryoo, the star of opening film The Berlin File 베를린 (2013), also performed as a DJ at the closing night party.

Runner-up prizes were presented to Nattawut "Baz" POONPIRIYA นัฐวุฒิ พูนพิริยะ's New Year's Eve thriller Countdown (2012) from Thailand and Herman YAU 邱禮濤's action-drama Ip Man: The Final Fight 葉問 終極一戰 (2013) from Hong Kong. Both directors were also in attendance on closing night.

The Black Dragon Award, which is chosen by loyal supporters of the festival who have their own individually reserved seats at all screenings, unexpectedly went to CHANG Jung-chi 張榮吉's drama Touch of the Light 逆光飛翔 (2012) from Taiwan. The voters in this category usually favour genre films.

Among the highlights at the nine-day event were the attendance of the cast of Hong Kong youth drama The Way We Dance 狂舞派 (2013), including actress Cherry NGAN 顏卓靈, and a screening of North Korean romantic comedy Comrade Kim Goes Flying 김동무는 하늘을 난다 (2012) attended by its leading actress HAN Jong Sim 한정심.

Other directors in attendance included China's LU Chuan 陸川, WANG Jing 王競 and YANG Shupeng 楊樹鵬, Japan's NAKAMURA Yoshihiro 中村義洋, MIKI Satoshi 三木聡 and HIGUCHI Shinji 樋口真嗣, South Korea's RYOO Seung-wan 류승완 | 柳昇完, and Thailand's Chookiat "Matthew" SAKVEERAKUL ชูเกียรติ ศักดิ์วีระกุล.

The festival continues to face severe financial difficulties with a 25% cut in funding in 2013. At the closing ceremony, Baracetti vowed that the festival would continue despite the strain on its budget.

Next year's 16th edition will be held from 25 April to 3 May 2014
