The 15th Shanghai International Film Festival 上海國際電影節 (16-24 June) has announced the ten films in its Asian New Talent Awards and its jury.
The selection includes two films from China, PENG Lei 彭磊's Follow Follow 樂隊 (2011) about the Beijing rock scene, and HE Wenchao 何文超's coming-of-age drama Sweet Eighteen 甜蜜18歲 (pictured).
From Greater China are Jessey TSANG 曾翠珊's Big Blue Lake 大藍湖 (2011), about a woman returning to her home village, and Tapu CHEN 陳大璞's youth drama Pick the Youth 皮克青春 (2011) from Hong Kong and Taiwan respectively.
There are two Indian films in the lineup, both psychological dramas, Karan GOUR's black-and-white Kshay क्षय (2011) and Ribhu DASGUPTA's Michael (2011).
The jury is headed by Iranian film-maker Amir NADERI, whose most recent film Cut カット (2011) was shot in Japan. His jury members are directors CAI Shangjun 蔡尚君 and Sabu サブ, festival programmer CHUNG Sung-il 정성일 and actress XU Fan 徐帆.
The festival has also announced the majority of the titles competing for the Golden Goblet Award. Only one Asian film is currently listed, Bijukumar DAMODARAN's Colour of Sky ആകാശത്തിന്റെ നിറം.
Films from China will likely be added in the coming weeks.
