Qriocity, Sony's online movies and music service, and the PlayStation Network will be back online by Sunday, the company said yesterday. However, that is already a delay on an earlier announcement. And the return to service applies to the Americas, Europe and parts of Asia, but not the key markets of Japan, South Korea and Hong Kong. A date for restoration in these territories has not been revealed.
The services were taken offline in April after it was revealed that hackers had repeatedly accessed servers and stolen personal information, including credit card details. The company has estimated at $170 million the cost of the disruption, a combination of lost revenues, incentives for clients to return and provisions for damage claims.
