Malaysia's TGV Cinemas Sdn Bhd has signed a deal to install seven IMAX giant screens in its next multiplexes.
The first will open later this year in a new construction at Bandar Utama, with a second to open in December at the existing complex in Johor Bahru. Others will be in Penang (Dec 2013) and Kuala Lumpur (Dec 2015) while other locations have not been finalised.
The agreement is an expansion of a revenue sharing deal signed between TGV and IMAX in October last year that gave TGV its first IMAX screen.
"Our first IMAX theatre has been a tremendous success and we are keen to build on this momentum with today's agreement," said Kenny WONG, CEO of TGV Cinemas in a statement.
TGV Cinemas, part of Ananda KRISHNAN's Tanjong PLC, is Malaysia's second largest exhibition chain. It currently operates 141 screens in 18 multiplexes throughout the country. This year it expects to open additional multiplexes at One Utama, Cheras Sentral, Setia Walk and Station 18.
