Local films returned to the top of the South Korea box office chart, with drama Thread of Lies 우아한 거짓말 holding the top spot.
With a screen share of 12%, the CJ Entertainment Inc ＣＪ엔터테인먼트 release by Punch 완득이 (2011) director LEE Han 이한 | 李翰, is about the events surround the suicide of a 14-year-old girl. It attracted 518,000 admissions for ₩3.86 billion (US$3.61 million) in its first four days.
In 2011, Punch attracted 644,000 admissions in its first four days of release for a final gross of 5.31 million admissions and ₩38.5 billion (US$36.1 million).
Mystery-thriller Monster 몬스터, starring LEE Min-gi 이민기 | 李民基, was second-placed with 357,000 admissions and ₩2.85 billion (US$2.66 million). The film was the top film on its first two days of release, but Thread of Lies saw a larger growth in weekend admissions.
300: Rise of an Empire remained the top foreign film, attracting an additional 350,000 admissions in its second weekend. After eleven days, the period epic has attracted 1.33 million admissions and ₩11.3 billion (US$10.6 million).
With a screen share of just 2.3%, Japanese horror Sadako 2 3D 貞子３Ｄ２ has attracted 11,000 admissions and ₩75.3 million (US$70,500) in its first four days of release.
After 54 days, Miss Granny 수상한 그녀 has attracted 8.57 million admissions, making it South Korea's 13th best-selling domestic film. It has earned a total of ₩62.1 billion (US$58.1 million).
