UTV-Reliance strike VoD deal

Leading Indian studio, UTV Motion Pictures will supply films to the new video-on-demand (VoD) platform operated by the rival Reliance Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group.
The two companies announced that UTV will provide selected blockbuster titles to BigFlix plus, the recently created online expansion of Reliance's BigFlicks video distribution operation.
UTV titles covered by the deal include Jodhaa Akbar जोधा अकबर (2008) (pictured), Wake Up Sid (2009), Raajneeti राजनीति (2010), I Hate Luv Storys आई हेट लव स्टोरीस (2010), No One Killed Jessica, Dev.D (2009), Udaan (2010), Fashion फैशन (2008), Race (2008) and Kaminey कमीने (2009).
"Pay per View (PPV) and Subscription Video on Demand (SVOD) options on internet platforms like BIGFlix is a great way for audience to watch movies at their convenience," said UTV's senior vice president, international distribution and syndication Amrita PANDEY . "This is the one of our first internet deals in India. BigFlix is one of the first players in this space in India and we are happy to have our movies available for their vast subscriber base."
"BigFlix plus is India's 1st movie on demand subscription service, which offers an exhaustive choice of HD quality movies to the net savvy movie buffs in India, at their convenience, across all internet connected devices," said Pankaj Chandra, COO of BigFlicks.
The BigFlix plus website says that the service has over 500 titles available to viewers.
