Viacom 18 Motion Pictures has given the green light to Project 18, the next directorial outing for Abhinav Singh Kashyap (pictured), director and co-screenwriter of smash hit Dabangg.
Project 18 is being scripted and directed by Kashyap and will shoot from the last quarter of this year. It will be produced by Movie Temple Productions, a company controlled by textiles magnate Sanjeev Gupta and film executive Himanshu Mehra, who previously worked on Dabangg and Shyam Benegal's Welcome to Sajjanpur.
Viacom 18 says it will handle worldwide releasing of Project 18.
"Abhinav is not just a rare writing and directing talent but also possesses an uncanny and stylish approach to film-making that puts him in the top league of young directors today," said Vikram Malhotra, Viacom 18 Motion Pictures COO in a statement.
The company's 2011-12 release slate includes collaborations with Anurag Kashyap for Shaitan, Michael and two-parter Gangs of Waseeypur; Amitabh Bachchan-starring Buddah directed by Puri Jagannadh and co-produced with AB Corp; Abbas-Mustan's Players and David Dhawan's Chashme-Baddoor.
