Chinese action thriller The Viral Factor 逆戰 will release at Chinese New Year in early 2012 it was announced today.
The $25 million picture is directed by Dante LAM 林超賢 and stars Jay CHOU 周杰倫 and Nicholas TSE 謝霆鋒 as two brothers who stand on opposite sides of the law but finally unite in order to stop a master criminal from releasing a fatal strain of mutating virus onto the world. Other cast include LIN Peng 林鵬 and Michelle BAI 白冰.
Although it was able to show footage in Beijing from the recent months of shooting, financier and sales agent Emperor Motion Pictures Ltd 英皇電影有限公司 has until now sought to deflect attention from the project and its exotic locations.
Viral Factor has deliberately sought to appeal to international audiences by delivering a high action quotient and featuring a string of international shooting locations that include Jordan and Malaysia. Footage shown at the Beijing press conference featured battle scenes employing sophisticated airplanes and armoured tanks.
"The interesting point of this story is the choices that men make when they are faced with extreme danger. It's what makes or breaks a hero. The decision to do the location shooting in the Middle East and Southeast Asia is because these regions have the right conditions to give it a realistic, oppressive feel. The realism in this film will give the audience a completely different experience," said Lam in a prepared statement.
The Viral Factor is a co-production between Emperor Motion Pictures and Beijing Universe Starlight Culture Media Co.
