Australian actress Mia WASIKOWSKA (pictured) will star in Tracks the upcoming drama produced by Oscar-winning duo Iain CANNING and Emile SHERMAN at See-Saw Films.
Wasikowska plays Robyn Davidson, a woman who travelled from the central Australian desert of Alice Springs to the West Coast, accompanied by camels and a dog.
John CURRAN, who previously made The Painted Veil 面紗 (2006), wrote the screenplay and will direct the picture with a likely start in the third quarter of the year. Julie RYAN of Cyan Films Pty Ltd is also a producer.
Having previously received direct investment from federal agency Screen Australia, Tracks recently received additional funding from the South Australian Film Corporation (SAFC). It will be released in Australia and New Zealand by Transmission Films and by Momentum Pictures in the UK.
The prolific Wasikowska, who recently appeared in Cannes film Lawless, Alice in Wonderland and Albert Nobbs (2011), is also set to direct a segment of Australian omnibus film The Turning. She will next be seen in PARK Chan-wook 박찬욱 | 朴贊郁's English-language debut film Stoker, as well as co-starring as the lesbian lover of Australian institution Cate BLANCHETT in Carol, based on the Patricia Highsmith novel The Price of Salt.
