The UK's Third Window Films and Taiwan's Joint Entertainment International Inc 佳映娛樂國際股份有限公司 have partnered on their second Japanese production, FUJITA Yosuke 藤田容介's Fuku-chan of FukuFuku Flats 福福荘の福ちゃん (2014).
The two companies previously partnered on SONO Sion 園子温's The Land of Hope 希望の国 (2012). The drama about the aftermath of the Fukushima disaster premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) last year.
Their investment partners on Fuku-chan are Italy's Tucker Film and Germany's Rapid Eye Movies HE GmbH. The latter was originally a production partner on Land of Hope but pulled out; Third Window upped their investment to fill the funding gap.
The new film stars OSHIMA Miyuki 大島美幸, MIZUKAWA Asami 水川あさみ and ARAKAWA Yoshiyoshi 荒川良々, a Fujita regular. The film goes into production today. Phantom Film Co Ltd ファントム・フィルム will distribute the film in Japan next year.
