Production has started on My Lucky Star 非常幸運, the prequel to Eva JIN 金依萌's Sophie's Revenge 非常完美 (2009).
Pitched as a pan-Asian romantic comedy and caper movie, the new film has locations in Beijing, Hong Kong, Macau and Singapore. The Singapore shoot is now underway with Dennie GORDON in the director's chair.
The film was previously announced as being a co-venture produced by its star ZHANG Ziyi 章子怡 and backed by Village Roadshow Entertainment Group Asia 威秀電影亞洲公司 and Dadi Media Group 大地文化傳播集團.
It is now being set up at Bona Film Group Ltd 博納影業集團有限公司.
Sources close to the production confirmed to Film Business Asia that the film's ownership is currently being restructured. However, with a shooting permit already issued, completing the paperwork may take some time.
Zhang stars opposite WANG Lee-hom 王力宏. Ruby LIN 林心如 and YAO Chen 姚晨 will reprise their supporting roles from the original film.
Bona's subsidiary Distribution Workshop Ltd 發行工作室有限公司 is being lined up to handle international sales.
