Top prizes at the International Indian Film Academy Awards went to feel-good entertainment Zindagi na milegi dobara ज़िन्दगी ना मिलेगी दोबारा (2011). The Zoya AKHTAR-directed road movie beat Imtiaz ALI's Rockstar (2011), which picked up four awards.

At a ceremony in Singapore, Zindagi was named as best film and Akhtar cited as best director. The film also claimed a best supporting actor prize for the director's brother Farhan AKHTAR as well as ones for the best story and best cinematography.

Rockstar claimed best actor for Ranbir KAPOOR, best music by A.R. RAHMAN and best lyrics and best male playback singer for Mohit Chauhan for the song Nadaan Parindey.

Vidya BALAN was another unsurprising winner – as best actress in The Dirty Picture द डर्टी पिक्चर (2011) – having earned the same award at numerous other recent prize events.

Parineeti CHOPRA won two awards — best debut female performance and best actress in a supporting role — for her part in Ladies vs Ricky Bahl (2011).

Vidyut JAMWAL was named as best male debutant for his performance in Force.

The prize ceremony, held at the Singapore Indoor Stadium, came at the end of the three day IIFA Weekend which included the screening of new film Shanghai by Dibakar BANERJEE, a fashion show and a ceremony for technical prizes.

The awards weekend is held outside India each year in a bid to raise the profile of the Indian film industry.
